NasDem Party lawmaker Patrice Rio Capella resigned on Thursday from his post at the House of Representatives and at the party after the antigraft commission named him a suspect in a bribery case.

"I resign from my position as NasDem's secretary-general, resign as the party's member and as a lawmaker because I am facing [legal] issues at the Corruption Eradication Commission [KPK]," he said in a press conference at NasDem's headquarters as reported by kompas.com.

KPK named Patrice a suspect earlier on Thursday in a bribery case involving suspended North Sumatra Governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho and his second wife Evy Susanti. He allegedly received gifts from the couple, who had been named suspects, related to misuse of funds meant for social causes in North Sumatra.

Patrice said he had discussed his decision with NasDem's chairman tycoon Surya Paloh.

Johnny G Platte, deputy chairman of NasDem's faction at the House, said that the party requires all of the members to resign as lawmakers if they were named as graft suspects.

The party, he said, would have further discussions about who would be Patrice's replacement.

"Chairman [Surya] will appoint an acting secretary-general soon," he told kompas.com.(rin)
