The police have called on soccer supporters not to carry out any violence during the Piala President (President'€™s Cup) game that will take place at Bung Karno Sports Stadium in Jakarta on Sunday.

The warning is particularly addressed to supporters of Persija Jakarta soccer club known as Jakmania, who were frequently involved in violence with supporters of Badung Soccer Club (Persib). Persib will play in the final round against Sriwijaya FC of South Sumatra.

'€œI call on the supporters of Jakmania not to be involved in anarchy, like blocking the supporters of Persib Bandung, vandalizing their vehicles or ganging up on them,'€ said Depok Police chief Sr. Comr. Dwiyono as reported by tempo.co on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Mahaka Sports and Entertainment, as an organizer of the game, and the Jakarta City Police have decided to hold the final round at the Bung Karno Stadium, ignoring protests from the Jakmania representatives.

Field coordinator of the Depok'€™s Jakmania Ahmad Ridwan has called on the organizers to hold the event outside Jakarta to avoid any riots.

According to Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian, some 60,000 to 80,000 supporters of Persib Bandung would attend the game to support their soccer club. He said that the police have expressed their commitment to guard the game in cooperation with the military.

Tito said that he had coordinated with coordinators of Jakmania to make sure that the soccer competition would take place smoothly without any violence. Therefore, he added, that the police will seize weapons, liquor and other things that could endanger others.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Mohammad Iqbal has advised the supporters of Persib Bandung not to wear any attribute of their soccer club so that they will not be identifiable. He also demanded Jakmania fans be good hosts.

'€œWe have secured the game. Jakmania should become a good host, while the supporters of Persib should also become good guests,'€ Ikbal added. (bbn)
