he Acehnese government started on Monday the demolition of 10 churches in Aceh Singkil regency, Aceh.
Aceh Singkil Regent Safriadi claimed that an earlier agreement had been struck between Christians and Muslims regarding the demolition of the 10 churches. Ten churches would be demolished, while 13 others would be assisted with their permits.
'We will deconstruct 10 churches, while the remaining 13 churches will be helped with their permits to accommodate the increasing number of congregation members,' Safriadi said.
Three churches, GKPPD Mandumpang, GKPPD Siompin and GMII Siompin, will be the first churches to be demolished. The others will be torn down over the next few days.
