Sani Wirorejo, grandmother of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, passed away at 100 years of age at 10:30 p.m. on Friday in Manahan, Banjarsari district, Surakarta, Central Java.

President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana arrived at Sani'€™s home at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday. A number of ministers, head of the National Narcotics Body (BNN) Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso and former Surakarta mayor FX Hadi Rudyatmo were seen among the mourners at the house on Jl. Ahmad Yani, Surakarta.

Sani is the mother of Sujiatmi Noto Miharjo, Jokowi'€™s mother.

Jokowi, who is scheduled to leave for the US on Saturday evening, was welcomed by relatives and neighbors of his grandmother.

Sani'€™s body was buried at Mundu cemetery in Gondangrejo, Karanganyar, Central Java, kompas.com reported.

Jokowi said that he had a close relationship with his grandmother because in childhood, Jokowi'€™s parents often took him to visit Sani'€™s house during the weekend and during the holidays. '€œThe advice that I always remember from my grandma is to '€˜just walk on the right path'€™'€, said Jokowi.

After an hour or so in Sani'€™s house, Jokowi returned to Jakarta to prepare for his official visit to the US. '€œIt is unlikely for the President to postpone the visit because it has been planned for such a long time,'€ said State Secretary Partikno. (bbn)(+)
