train traveling from Serpong, Banten, to Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta, caught fire before entering Rawa Buntu in Serpong early on Tuesday. The incident did not claim any casualties but shocked passengers. Rawa Buntu Station head Alyas said only car number two of the train had caught fire. The car caught fire due to sparks coming from the pantograph above it. He said officers immediately extinguished the fire.
'The fire was put out before it got bigger,' he said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.
He added that the train was immediately pulled back to Serpong station to ensure that the line was free from congestion.
Separately, Serpong station head Tarta Gunada said the Serpong-Tanah Abang line had operated as usual right after the troubled train was pulled in.
'The troubled train is currently on its way to a train workshop in Depok, West Java, to be fixed,' he said.
Meanwhile, the Transportation Ministry said in a statement that the sparks occurred because the pantograph in car number two was broken.
He also said that the incident caused train delays in Serpong Station, Parung Panjang Station in Bogor, West Java and Maja Station in Banten
