The Jakarta Police have urged motorcyclists not to take shelter under bridges or flyovers during the rainy season as they will face fines.
Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto, head of general enforcement at the Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate, said waiting under flyovers during the rain would disrupt traffic.
"Taking shelter from the rain under bridges or flyovers will disturb security, safety and traffic order," he said as quoted by newsportal tribunnews.com on Monday.
Police will enforce legal sanctions on anyone violating the regulation.
"If [motorcyclists] do not follow officers' instructions, we will give them ticket or give them a Rp 250,000 fine," he said.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted that rain will start in November across Greater Jakarta.
During heavy rain, many motorcyclists choose to wait in groups under a bridge or flyover causing traffic to slow and worsening congestion on main roads in the capital. (rin)(+)
