Posters featuring the Islamic State (IS) movement's black flag symbol have been circulated in Alor and South Central Timor (TTS) regencies in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), according to the police.

"We currently suspect the spread of IS in these two regencies," NTT Police public relations head AKBP Jules Abaraham Abbas told tempo.co on Tuesday.

According to Jules, the police had arrested three Alor residents in different places for allegedly spreading IS propaganda, but they had been released.

"Although we have released [the three residents], we continue to monitor their movements," added Jules.

Meanwhile, in TTS, Jules said that drawings of IS flags on four adjacent walls, including at a school, a stall and the district office, had been discovered and removed.

"No one has been caught yet [regarding the incident]," said Jules.

He added that the police were still investigating whether the drawings were related to the spread of IS propaganda in the area or were aimed at disrupting the upcoming regional head election. (kes)(+)
