Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has admitted that the capital city is not a safe place for its citizens.
Ahok made the statement on Saturday in response to a rape and robbery case that took place on a footbridge in South Jakarta last week.
'Jakarta is not yet safe,' Ahok said at City Hall, as reported by news portal kompas.com.
Ahok stressed that the Jakarta administration would conduct measures to provide security and safety for all citizens. He said one of the efforts would be to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in various locations across the capital.

'Through Qlue, you can report if you feel that an area is crime-prone. Please report it so that the local community chiefs can supervise the areas and take action.'
Who do the local community chiefs report to if they already know their areas are crime-prone and why haven't they reported it before this? Doesn't quite make sense to me (not surprised). Hopefully, it's better than nothing.

Jakarta is not a safe place for us. I have noticed the Bendungan Hilir footbridge is full of robbers almost every morning, afternoon and evening, especially during peak hours, and Senayan Pintu I footbridge (JPO) is also full of robbers, especially on weekends. They are always in numbers or in groups when operating.
Be watchful and if possible avoid those areas!

For the governor of any state or city to admit this, irrespective of whether it's true or not, means he does not deserve to govern anywhere.

What a strange comment. You think he'd do better to lie about this?

So it might in your opinion be better to dilly-dally around Javanese-style than all a spade a spade? This guy seems to be the only one in charge who is taking charge.

By the way, Pak Ahok, you gave us three cell phone numbers during a press conference last year when you were sworn in as governor to replace Pak Jokowi... I regret to inform you none of our calls have been answered nor messages replied to.
So what is the big deal about this smartphone app?

It's nice to have a politician in charge who is really observant. Maybe that's why you can almost always spot police in photos not too far from Ahok.

Ahok is definitely one of Indonesia's best sons of his generation. Unfortunately Indonesia is not a country that follows natural selection, which happily supports its best and fittest to thrive and over time to bring the whole country to prosperity.
If it were such a country, it would not give space to characters such as Setya Novanto at the House of Representatives or Deputy Jakarta City Council Speaker Abraham 'Lulung' Lunggana.
