National Police chief Badrodin Haiti has confirmed that the Islamic State (IS) has threatened to murder six high-ranking officers in the National Police. In response, the National Police have strengthened protection escorts for the six officers.

The four-star police general called on the public to remain alert and cautious in monitoring their neighborhoods. Any suspicious actions must be reported to the nearest police station.

"Not only police officers, but the public is also under the threat of IS. We're not only protecting our officers but also the public, and we actually put a priority on the protection of the public,"'€Ž said Badrodin as quoted by Tribunnews.com in Jakarta, on Sunday.

Previously, Indonesian Police Watch (IPW) chairman Neta S. Pane said that US and Australian intelligence agencies had separately warned Indonesia of the threat.

"Two of the six high-ranking officers each hold a position of authority in the National Police. Two of the officers are Kapolda [Regional Police Chief], one is a retired general and one Kombes [police commissioner]," said Neta. (ags)
