Attorney General M Prasetyo casually brushed off House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto for reporting him to the National Police over the Freeport saga that the Attorney General's Office is currently probing for alleged legal misconducts.

Prasetyo said on Tuesday that he did not mind the report made by Setya.

"Go ahead. It is a form of counter attack from a corrupter," he said as quoted by news portal tempo.co.

Setya, through his attorney Razman Arief Nasution, reported Prasetyo and editor in chief of national television channel MetroTV Putra Nababan to the National Police's Crime Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) on Monday.

Setya's camp reported Prasetyo to police following his statement of conspiracy conducted by Setya and oilman Muhammad Reza Chalid before the forensic result of the recorded conversation came out.

Setya and Reza'€™s discussions with PT Freeport Indonesia president director Maroef Sjamsoeddin went public earlier this month when the House' ethical council began its hearings surrounding Setya's alleged ethical misconduct.

The Attorney General's Office has also started an investigation into Setya's alleged conspiracy and abuse of power during a meeting with Reza and Maroef. The Office has acquired Maroef's mobile phone, used to record the meeting which took place at an upscale hotel in Jakarta in June.

Setya's attorney has also filed a report against Metro TV, owned by NasDem founder Surya Paloh, for defamation.

"They leaked the conversation of the council's closed hearing presenting Setya a while ago," Razman said on Monday as quoted by tempo.co.

In addition, Setya's attorney reported Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said for defamation and suspicion of illegal recording he reported to the council.

Moreover, Setya reported Sudirman for another allegation, accusing him of allegedly abusing his power as a minister by issuing an illegal operational permit for Freeport.

Razman said that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo had stated that he would only approve discussion of Freeport's contract extension in 2019, two years before the contract expires, as stipulated in the 2009 Mining Law. Rizman claimed that Sudirman had already started the renegotiation process. (rin)
