Promoting a tourist destination is not complete without promoting its culinary offerings, according to Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.

"Tourist destinations and culinary promotions are a one-package concept," said Ganjar at the newly opened Baturaden Botanical Garden in Purwokerto, Banyumas regency, Central Java, on Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that each region had its own tourism potential and the provincial government was seeking to encourage each region to prepare traditional culinary centers to lure tourists to stay longer.

Banyumas, for example, said Ganjar, continuously created new tourist sites. Its latest is the 143.5-hectare Baturaden Botanical Gardens, nestled inside the Baturaden tourist area. Previously, the region was famous as the ultimate destination for hot-spring lovers with popular spots including Pancuran Pitu, Pancuran Telu and Telaga Sunyi.

"Many people came to Telaga Sunyi to semedi [pray/meditate]. Meanwhile, Pancuran Pitu and Pancuran Telu hot springs are believed to be able to cure skin diseases,'€ said Ganjar.

Other tourist attractions in Banyumas include: mineral water production center in Kalibacin, the Soko Tunggal Mosque, The Wayang (traditional puppets) Museum and the Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Museum. The regency's traditional cuisine, such as tempe mendoan (tempeh fried in flour and chives) can be found all over the region.

"Banyumas has numerous unique, local cuisines. One of them is sroto [aromatic chicken soup] '€“ not soto '€“ since you eat it by slurping [the broth]," said Ganjar. (nov/kes)(+)
