Despite his successful years as the spokesperson of the Corruption Eradication Comission (KPK) and having passed all the requirements stipulated by the House of Representatives, lawmakers turned down his candidacy as KPK chairman because of his lack of an education in law. The former acting deputy commissioner of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Johan Budi Sapto Pribowo, has announced that he will resign from the anticorruption body in the near future.

Johan said on Tuesday evening that he already had the intention to resign, but had yet to officially compose the resignation letter.

"My current status is as an employee of the KPK. I've been doing it for 10 years. I plan to resign so the others could continue [the work]," Johan said in Jakarta.

He also said that he could help the KPK from outside the institution and that he had been serving the institution for a long time.

Johan had a five-year position in the KPK as spokesperson from 2009 to 2014. He said he has yet to decide what his next endeavor will be.

"In the near future, I'll still be preoccupied with the wealth report, packing my stuff, packing borrowed things, laptop," Johan said, when being asked about the exact time of his resignation.

The former Tempo journalist has been serving on the antigraft body since 2005, started as an official of the Educational and Public Service Directorate (Dikyanmas) at the KPK. He was Dikyanmas director in 2008 and 2009.

Johan became a deputy at prevention division in 2014.

He has served as the acting KPK deputy commissioner since February 2015, when he replaced the non-active KPK deputy commissioner Bambang Widjojanto. (ags)(+)
