MyGadget: Noni Zara: Versatile gadgets and apps

Travel show host Noni Zara says that her job comes with a good deal of perks.

'€œAs a presenter for a travel and adventure television show, I am able to meet new people, learn new cultures and visit new places,'€ Noni told The Jakarta Post in a recent interview.

The job also forces Noni to become versatile and adaptable.

'€œI need to quickly adapt to local cultures. For example, I have to be able to eat traditional foods that I have never eaten before such as leaf porridge, or food made of cocoons, worms and sea urchins,'€ she said.

In her work, Noni needs gadgets that support her versatility.

'€œI used to bring a DSLR camera with me but it was too heavy and needed a lot of lenses,'€ she said.

Gadgets

I replaced my DSLR camera with the iPhone 5 32 GB smartphone. It has a very good camera sensor. The quality of the camera is great for taking landscape photos. The image results are very detailed and sharp and the camera can even take great pictures during backlights. I can also use it to take underwater photos. All I need is to wrap it up inside an underwater casing.

An MP3 player is another must-have gadget. I like using the Phillips Go Gear because it is small, mobile and durable, and doesn'€™t take long to recharge.

Apps

For me, the most essential app is Google Maps; indeed, it'€™s a must-have app for any traveler. It allows me to calculate the distance from one place to another and it also shows the traffic levels. There are other map apps, but this one is the best.

I'€™ve also installed PicArt to edit photos. It is very user-friendly, has a lot of features and offers many different details.

When I travel to places that don'€™t have electricity, I can still watch television shows using the UseeTV app.

Finally, one of my favorite apps is already installed in my iPhone, and that'€™s the Weather app. It'€™s great for checking the weather. By doing this, I can plan ahead and prepare my clothing and tools before I go somewhere. This app offers very detailed weather forecasts. It can even provide data on the ultraviolet index.
