The government is building an integrated database of legal cases to solve administrative problems connected to the millions of legal cases. The database will combine the files of the National Police, the Attorney General's Office (AGO) and the Supreme Court (MA).

There are 1.5 million legal cases listed in the Supreme Court, underlining the need of an integrated database system, said Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Panjaitan.

"It's been several years prepared. This is good for checks and balances and transparency to prevent the judges from making careless decisions," Luhut said after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

If a judge makes an incorrect decision, he continued, the public will be able to read the case thoroughly and question the judge's legal considerations.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said he expected that the new database system would solve the problems related to administrative issues, legal case settlements and will help people who really need to get the protection. (ags)(+)
