Greater Jakarta: Police claim no violations in Jessica case

T

he Jakarta Police have upheld their decision to name Jessica Kumala Wongso a suspect in the murder of Wayan Mirna Salihin by denying the suspect'€™s claim before the Central Jakarta District Court.

During a pretrial hearing on Wednesday, a lawyer representing the Jakarta Police, Dian Perri, asked the judge to turn down the petition.

'€œThe petitioner'€™s claim that the police report is preliminary evidence is not in accordance with the facts. The police used it as a basis to launch an investigation. Therefore, the claim should be set aside,'€ Dian said as quoted by kompas.com.

Dian also denied a claim filed by Jessica stating that the police had acted inappropriately by requesting the immigration office impose a travel ban on her before she was named a suspect in the case.

'€œA travel ban can be imposed on anyone who is under investigation and not necessarily a suspect,'€ Dian continued.

Jessica'€™s legal team read out 21 objections on Tuesday, concluding that the police had arrested Jessica without proper evidence and had carried out inappropriate procedures during their investigation.

The court is expected to decide on Jessica'€™s status by March 2.
