Governor Basuki âAhokâ Tjahaja Purnama said that he supported the central governmentâs decision to convert the Senayan Golf driving range in Central Jakarta into a green space
overnor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that he supported the central government's decision to convert the Senayan Golf driving range in Central Jakarta into a green space.
The driving range was developed by a private firm on land owned by the central government. The range has been closed since earlier this month.
Last year, the Tax Agency's Central Jakarta office erected a sign in front of the Senayan Golf driving range announcing that the management was in arrears of the urban and rural land and building tax to the value of Rp 8 billion (US$595,360).
The Environment and Forestry Ministry is planning to develop a green public park on the 4.6-hectare piece of land. Development is set to commence in March.
Ahok said that he supported the plan, as the area on which the driving range was built was categorized as a green area according to a 2014 bylaw on detailed spatial plans and zoning (RDTR).
'Of course we support the plan. The driving range is a green area in the first place,' Ahok told reporters at City Hall.
