The North Sulawesi Health Agency's epidemic and disaster section head Arthur Tooy said the administration had been preparing free medication at a number of hospitals in an effort to control the spread of the virus.
Arthur said that as of November, his office recorded 204 fatalities related to HIV/AIDS.
Meanwhile, of 1,950 people currently affected, he said, 592 were private sector employees, 374 were housewives and 92 were sailors.
'Based on their gender, men were the most affected, with 1,181, while women only numbered 769,' Arthur said.
'We also recorded HIV/AIDS cases in babies less than a year old as their mothers were HIV positive,' he said.
