dministrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi said that the government will apply harsh penalties for civil servants caught using drugs.
'We will crack down on any civil servants involved in drug abuse cases,' Yuddy said as quoted by Antara on Wednesday, without providing further details.
The statement followed the recent arrest of several civil servants in drug abuse cases.
The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) arrested six people who had consumed crystal methamphetamine at the local Youth and Sports Agency office in Palembang.
'One of the priorities in bureaucratic reform is improving discipline and setting a good example for others. So, we are concerned about the case in Palembang,' he said.
Yuddy said his ministry had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BNN to prevent drug abuse cases among civil servants.
He has also urged all local leaders across the nation, from governors to regents and mayors, to join hands and help curb rampant drug use among civil servants.
