AKARTA: Indonesia'€™s ice hockey team, the Batavia Demons, came home victorious after an unbeaten performance in the Lion City Cup international ice hockey tournament in Singapore recently.

The Demons, who are one of the few ice hockey teams in the country, outclassed teams from Russia, Finland and Singapore to bring home the trophy. The event was held from March 2 to 5.

'€œWe'€™re very excited to be able to bring home the trophy. The victory motivates us to play better in the future,'€ Demons'€™ captain Jonathan Sudharta said in a statement.

The Demons beat Finland'€™s Naked Santas 2-0 in the final round to grab the cup.

Jonathan hoped that the recent achievement would pave the way to Demons'€™ members participating in a national team for upcoming international events such as next year'€™s Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, 2018'€™s Asian Games and the Winter Olympics. The SEA Games in 2017 will stage an ice hockey competition for the first time.

The Singapore win adds to the the team'€™s victory list as previously it has also won the Singapore Ice Hockey Invitational in 2015 and 2016, the Indonesian Ice Hockey Tournament in 2014 and 2015 as well as the Malaysian Ice Hockey Tournament in 2015.

Indonesian Ice Hockey Federation (FHEI) chief Berdi Sabri hoped that the Demons'€™ victories would motivate the future national team to achieve well in the 2017 SEA Games.
