JAKARTA: Two members of the Peopleâs Conscience (Hanura) Party have resigned following the partyâs support for Jakarta Governor Basuki âAhokâ Tjahaja Purnama in the cityâs 2017 gubernatorial election
AKARTA: Two members of the People's Conscience (Hanura) Party have resigned following the party's support for Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama in the city's 2017 gubernatorial election.
The two members are deputy head of organization, regeneration and membership at the Jakarta branch of the party Rahmat HS and deputy head of legislative and executive training Bustami Rahawarin.
Rahmat and Bustami told a press conference over the weekend that the party's support for Ahok was not in line with the party's principles, stating that Ahok himself had 'no conscience'.
They explained that supporting Ahok was not in accordance with the party's vision and mission, citing Ahok's ruthless treatment of residents of Kampung Pulo in East Jakarta as well as that of street vendors and other low-income residents.
'We will submit our resignation letters to Wiranto as chairman of the party and to Ongen Sangaji as head of Jakarta's Hanura branch,' Rahmat said as quoted by kompas.com.
