AKARTA: Comedian Indrodjojo Kusumonegoro, better known as Indro, is collaborating with Falcon Pictures to produce Warkop Reborn, a movie inspired by his comedy trio, Warkop DKI.
Warkop DKI, which consisted of Indro, Kasino and Dono, rose to fame in the 1980s and 90s for its slapstick comedy films. Kasino and Dono have passed away, leaving Indro as the sole surviving member of the group.
Indro said the new film has been met with mixed reactions from long-time fans. “Of course, there is [ controversy] about this. Some are supportive, while others are not,” he told tribunnews.com.
“For those who are against the project, are they sure they’ll be content just watching our old movies all the time?” he said. “I believe we should move forward.”
Indro implied the upcoming film would present a new generation of Warkop. “It means a lot if new comedians can continue our legacy.”
