S-based ride hailing application Uber Indonesia has recognized the growing popularity of ojek (motorcycle taxi) services in the capital and launched uberMOTOR.
Uber offers ease in ordering an ojek at competitive prices.
"UberMOTOR is an extraordinary way to help thousands of people get economical and reliable rides in Jakarta supported by technology," Uber said in an official blog on Wednesday.
UberMOTOR charges customers a minimum of Rp 1,000 (8 US cents) and another Rp 1,000 per kilometer and Rp 100 per minute. To promote the service, from April 13 to July 2016, the company is offering free rides worth Rp 75,000 to first-time customers who enter the promotion code "uberMOTORJKT", the statement said.
Moreover, Uber also offers payment options: credit card, debit card and cash. The uberMOTOR service is integrated in the Uber application.
The payment options differ to those of Uber and its rivals, homegrown ojek-hailing application Gojek and Malaysian-based GrabBike.
Gojek accepts cash payments and Gojek offers credit in which customers should transfer funds to their Gojek account. Meanwhile, GrabBike only accepts cash, although Grab has a GrabPay scheme for credit card payments only for its Grab Car service. (rin)
