President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo held a courtesy meeting with Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday. The meeting discussed the commitment to improve bilateral relations in all fields, particularly related to investment and trade.

"Therefore, there are some proposals from Indonesia, for example, to establish an IDBC, or Indonesian Diaspora Business Council in Shanghai, a center of promotions in Beijing and so on," Retno said.

The trade value between Indonesia and China currently reaches US$44.4 billion, but has seen recent decline.

Aside from the trade cooperation, Retno added that there was an increase of 400% investment from China to Indonesia this year. "The president certainly welcomes any efforts that have been made to attract foreign investment into Indonesia," she went on. (ags)
