ndonesia’s young talents, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, won the men’s doubles title at the Australian Open Super Series 2016 on Sunday.
It was the second Super Series victory this year for the pair after clenching a win at the India Open Super Series in April.
Kevin and Marcus defeated Angga Pratama and Ricky Karanda Suwardi 21-14, 21-15 in their all-Indonesian final at Sports Center of Olympic Boulevard in Sydney.
“We were pretty relaxed and enjoyed each game. Meanwhile, Angga and Ricky seemed nervous. We made the best of the situation,” Marcus said as quoted by Indonesian Badminton Association’s (PBSI) website, badmintonindonesia.org.
“The win gives a significant morale boost. Hopefully, we can get more Super Series wins in the future,” he added.
In other final matches, Bao Yixin and Chen Qingchen of China beat second seeds Nitya Krishinda Maheswari and Greysia Polii of Indonesia in women’s doubles. Men’s singles Hans-Kristian Vittinghus outclassed Jeon Hyeok-jin of South Korea.
Eight seeds Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong of China defeated compatriots Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen in men’s doubles. Meanwhile, women’s singles Saina Nehwal of India beat Sun Yu of China.
