ank Indonesia (BI) forecast monthly inflation of 0.6 percent in June on the back of increasing prices of basic commodities during Ramadhan.
BI’s inflation assessment division head Rizki E. Wimanda said inflation was driven by rising prices of staple food, especially beef, eggs and cooking oil.
Rizki said the central bank would coordinate with regional inflation controlling teams to stabilize basic commodity prices.
"This inflation rate is among the lowest over the past few years. We are optimistic that we can keep the full-year inflation rate below 4 percent,” he said.
According to him, inflation this year would peak next month on the planned electricity tariff increase. BI predicts monthly inflation to reach 0.98 percent in July. (dmr)
