he government has stressed the importance of involving Papuan stakeholders and local resources in efforts to achieve sustainable development in the province, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said.

"All should be involved. We will construct universities and school dormitories, push for the improvement of small and medium enterprises, and we will also encourage and give chances to Papuan people to play a greater role in development," Luhut said during a meeting with Papuan youth and leaders and the Red-White Union in Jayapura on Thursday.

As the efforts aimed to create sustainable development for the well-being of Papuan people, the results would not instantly affect people in just one or two years, Luhut said, adding that it would take 15 to 20 years to feel the impact of the holistic approach.

However, Luhut asserted that Papuan people should first eliminate their suspicions against one another and the government in order to stop conflict from occurring as well as to strive together toward holistic development for all. (dan)
