A

dministrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi has barred civil servants from using official cars to travel to their home cities during the Idul Fitri exodus.

“Civil servants are not allowed to use official cars; they are not allowed to accept hampers. The policies apply to all echelons,” Yuddy said as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

Civil servants have seen much improved welfare and therefore they should refrain from accepting any gift related to their duty and position, said Yuddy.

"Their welfare has very much improved. It would be unethical for them to accept gifts [from private partners],” Yuddy said.

He also said that civil servants should not apply to extend their leave for an additional week following the week-long Idul Fitri exodus so as to ensure that smooth service continues to be provided to the public, warning that his ministry would impose strict sanctions on those who breach the instructions. Sanctions range from a verbal warning, to demotion and criminal charges, depending on the severity of the violation. (dmr)
