he National Police will deploy a joint force of 155,000 officers, including those from the military as well as public order and transportation agencies nationwide, to monitor the Idul Fitri exodus.
National Police traffic corps chief Brig. Gen. Agung Budi Maryoto said the operation would begin on June 30 as Idul Fitri will fall in the first week of July.
“We predict that people will start to travel on June 30, but there will be more travelers on Saturday and Sunday,” Agung said.
He added that officers would also ensure that travelers did not stay too long in rest areas to prevent severe congestion.
“We will close any full rest areas for a while to order people who have stayed too long there to continue their trip. After that, we’ll open the rest areas again,” Agung said.
The traffic corps has also provided a call center for travelers who want to complain about anything related to the exodus via dialling 9119. Travelers can ask to be connected directly to any precinct police station (Polsek) in the country.
