wo days before Idul Fitri, electricity consumption in Jakarta has reportedly dropped by 63 percent during the day and 71 percent at night compared to the usual daily consumption in the capital city.
State electricity company PLN distribution for Greater Jakarta recorded a peak consumption of only 1,453 megawatts during the day and 1,971 MW at night, as many Jakartans have left the city to travel to their hometowns.
"Meanwhile, offices and factories are working half-day or have even totally ceased operations before the Idul Fitri holiday," PLN’s general manager of distribution for Greater Jakarta Syamsul Huda told kompas.com on Monday in Jakarta.
During Ramadhan, he further said, there was increased consumption day and night compared to ordinary days but not significantly. The increase on average amounted to 6.1 percent during the day and 5.8 percent in the night.
As many factories and offices -- which consume the largest amounts of electricity —have stopped operations ahead of Idul Fitri, night-time consumption has become relatively higher than during day time. (anh/ags)
