ost Indonesia has got off to a good start by dominating the first day of the relegation play-offs for the Davis Cup Group II Asia/Oceania tournament with a solid 2-0 victory over Sri Lanka on Friday.

Playing first, David Agung Susanto, who vowed victory pre-match, kept his promise by beating favorite Sri Lanka’s Harshana Godamanna 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on the hard court of Gelora Manahan Tennis Stadium Complex in Surakarta, Central Java.

“I stayed focused on my service game to avoid giving my opponent any chance to break and affect my [overall] performance,” David, 24, said in a press release.

David’s turning point was at a break in the fourth game of the first set when the Indonesian led 3-1.

“At that point, Godamanna, who is a big-serving player, seemed at his lowest, which was my defining moment to win the game,” he added.

Sri Lanka’s team captain Rohan De Silva, nevertheless, admitted the host’s superiority, praising David’s strong play.

The first win boosted the Indonesian players’ morale, as another win followed from Indonesia’s top player Christopher Rungkat, who faced Yasitha De Silva in the day’s second match.

The world’s 605th-ranked Christopher outclassed De Silva 6-2, 6-0, 6-2.
