Rp 400b worth of assets declared in first five days of tax amnesty Upbeat -- The Finance Ministry says Rp 400 billion (US$30.49 million) worth of assets have been declared in the first five days of the implementation of the tax amnesty program. (Tempo/-)

T

he Finance Ministry has claimed that more than Rp 400 billion (US$30.49 million) worth of assets have been declared during the first five days of the implementation of the tax amnesty program.

"As of today, there are almost Rp 400 billion worth of assets that have been declared in 20 affidavits," Finance Deputy Minister Mardiasmo said in Jakarta on Friday.

He said the figure showed a significant increase compared to the figure he announced on Thursday, when he stated that Rp 100 billion worth of assets had been declared.

Mardiasmo further said that several taxpayers had even paid redemption fees. The total amount of redemption received was recorded to have reached about Rp 6 billion.

"We recorded redemption from three taxpayers, each about Rp 2 billion,” he added.

In the tax amnesty program, a taxpayer with repatriated assets will enjoy a redemption rate ranging from 2 to 5 percent of the assets, while a declared asset is to have a 4 to 10 percent redemption rate.

At the end of the program’s implementation period in March 2017, the government expects to see Rp 4 quadrillion worth of declared assets and Rp 1 quadrillion of repatriated assets from overseas. It also expects to pocket Rp 165 trillion in tax revenues from penalties. (ebf)
