T

he lawyer of murder suspect Jessica Kumala Wongso on Wednesday accused Olivier restaurant barista Rangga Dwi Saputra of being paid by Wayan Mirna Solihin’s husband to kill her.

During Jessica’s  hearing at the Central Jakarta District Court, Otto Hasibuan asked Rangga if he had received Rp 140 million (US$10,670) from Mirna’s husband, Arief Soemarko, to commit the murder. Mirna died at Olivier restaurant on Jan. 6 after drinking Vietnamese iced coffee made by Rangga.

Rangga refuted the allegation, saying, “If I received the money, I would've quit my job at the restaurant.” Arief, who was also presented as a witness in the trial, also denied the allegation, saying he had never met Rangga before his wife’s death.

Otto claimed his side did not make up the claim and that the police had recorded Rangga’s confession of having murdered Mirna in a case dossier.  A police officer went to the restaurant looking for Rangga and claimed that he was hired to kill Mirna, he told the court.

Presiding judge Binsar Gultom asked the defense team to present witnesses to corroborate the claim. (ary)
