T

he Bali division of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) arrested a German national on Monday for allegedly operating a home crystal methamphetamine lab in the country's most famous tourist destination.

Identified only with the initials BB, 35, agency personnel arrested him with three Indonesians in a house at Puri Wahana residence in Kerobokan of Badung regency at 6 p.m. on Monday, BNN official Adj. Sr. Comr. I Ketut Arta said on Wednesday.

In the raid, BNN personnel found drug precursors to make the drug, locally known as sabu-sabu, such as acetone, sodium hydroxide (NaOH), salt, alcohol, battery acid, fertilizers and ammonium nitrate. The officials also seized gallons of mineral water, plastic bottles, and two packs of crystal methamphetamine weighed at 10 grams that had not yet been sold. There were also tools found to allegedly produce the drug, Arta said.

The BNN conducted the raid on the house following an undercover mission by its team on Monday afternoon that initially arrested two Indonesians identified only as STV and VM. In the subsequent raid, BB was arrested with MA who allegedly worked for him at the house

"The suspect said he learned how to produce drugs from YouTube," Arta told reporters referring to the popular video sharing website. (rin)
