akarta governor candidate hopeful Sandiaga Uno has clarified that he indeed did wear underpants in the now infamous photo of him and apologized for any discomfort that he might have caused as the photo went viral on the social media.

The Gerindra Party politician apologized in a video he posted on his Instagram account @Sandiuno on Thursday. In the video, Sandiaga denied reports that he went commando in a photo taken when he was doing an impromptu visit, locally known as blusukan. In the photo that went viral earlier this week, Sandiaga was seen wearing a light blue T-shirt and grey-colored sports pants.

"I apologize from the bottom of my heart. Of course I was wearing underwear. The pants were yoga pants I received from my wife as a birthday gift two years ago. I never had any problems wearing them before. I have worn them to conduct the umrah [minor haj] and to other events," he said in a video accompanied by his wife Nur Asia who was seen wearing a mukena (female Islamic prayer cloak).

He captioned the video with the hashtags "#sorry #inappropriate #wardrobemalfunction".

The photo uploaded through social media accounts went viral following accusations by netizens that Sandiaga did not wear underpants. It received much backlash from netizens slamming Sandiaga for his inappropriateness.

The businessman has been more actively engaged in public activities recently as he is eyeing the capital's top post in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election. (rin)
