GGGI to help foster ‘green economy’ in Indonesia for next 3 years

outh Korean-based organization Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), chaired by former Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, will assist Indonesia in improving an environment-based ‘green economy’ for the next three years.
GGGI country representative manager Anna van Paddenburg said the organization will focus on renewable energy development and environmentally friendly agriculture, in which farmers might receive higher income without destructing the soil quality.
“We want to help improve the ratio of renewable power plants in Indonesia. This is the future of the energy business […] Helping the farmers is the next plan. We encourage them to use organic fertilizers,” she told journalists on the sidelines of the 15th World Renewable Energy Congress in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In cooperation with the Norwegian government, GGGI prepared a US$18.5 million budget and a team of experts to launch various ‘green economy’ projects in Indonesia until 2019. The financial assistance is part of the Indonesia-Norway REDD+ partnership aimed at reducing gas emissions.
GGGI was established by former Korean President Lee Myung-bak as a think tank group in 2010, which converted into an international-based organization at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2012.
The organization cooperates with several countries to promote a sustainable economy in regard to natural resource preservation and climate change. (rez)
