A

politician says six political parties that make up the Kinship Coalition plan to make a decision on their Jakarta gubernatorial candidate pair on Wednesday as the representatives of the parties have been intensifying their meetings after the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) made their decision.

"On Wednesday, all central executive boards of the parties will have a final decision regarding the appointed candidates," chairman of the United Development Party's (PPP) Jakarta chapter Abdul Aziz told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

Members of the Kinship Coalition are Gerindra Party, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Democratic Party, PPP, the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the National Mandate Party (PAN). PDI-P left the group to support incumbent Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat.

Among the possible candidates from the coalition include former law and human rights minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra, former education and culture minister Anies Baswedan, businessman Sandiaga Uno, Jakarta city secretary Saefullah and the Jakarta governor's assistant for tourism affairs Sylviana Murni.

But on Monday, Sandiaga met with Anies to discuss their possible pairing in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election. Sandiaga even expressed his readiness to become a deputy gubernatorial candidate of Anies.

Separately, Gerindra candidate recruitment team chief Syarif said that the coalition would register the appointed candidates to the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) on Friday, after the Friday prayer at 2 p.m. (bbn)
