I

ndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri dressed Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama with a red jacket similar to the party's jackets, after Ahok’s registration as a gubernatorial candidate at the Jakarta Election Commission (KPU) office on Wednesday, causing him to smile.

Ahok wore a batik shirt the previous day during the party’s announcement supporting his candidacy. Unlike the usual PDI-P jacket, the jacket which was worn by Ahok did not have the party’s logo.

Ahok then clarified that he wore the jacket only as respect to Megawati, not because he is a member of the PDI-P.

“I wore the jacket as appreciation to Ibu Megawati to show that we have the same uniform and vision,” Ahok said at the Jakarta KPU office.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, Ahok emphasized that he was not a member of the PDI-P although on Tuesday Ahok signed a political contract with the party as their gubernatorial candidate. The political contract only stated his commitment to serve the public, as well as to uphold state ideology Pancasila and PDI-P’s ideology Dasa Prasetya. He added that the contract was not “political dowry”.

Jokowi and I signed the same contract a long time ago. The principle is to uphold the Pancasila and Dasar Prasetya and is not political dowry,” Ahok said. (evi)
