erindra Party and Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan wants to make the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election a festival of ideas to improve the capital.
"I decided to join the election with a willingness to embellish democracy. Let's enter the election with joy and make the election a festival of ideas and works," Anies said after his declaration at Gerindra chairman Prabowo Subianto's residence in South Jakarta on Friday.
Anies said the capital deserved humanist leaders as Jakarta was not only a city but also a home for its residents, who deserved to have policies that protected them.
Anies said he hoped he and his running mate Sandiaga Uno would be a solid team in the election.
"I don't want to appear as a Superman. Instead I want our team to become a 'super team'. We will work together to build Jakarta," said the former education and culture minister. (ebf)
