he Radya Pustaka Museum in Surakarta, Central Java, is in the transition process from being a committee to becoming a technical managing unit (UPTD). Ten of its employees will lose their jobs because a UPTD is required to employ civil servants from the Surakarta municipality.
“The UTPD will employ civil servants from the municipality moving forward, but the existing museum employees are freelance workers, so we’re not sure of their fate,” said Surakarta Culture and Tourism Office head Eny Tyasni Suzana on Thursday.
However, she said her office would need the assistance of experts and professional personnel in managing the museum and handling kris and cultural heritage objects. Eny was unsure whether or not the experts would be taken from the existing 10 museum employees.
Eny said the museum UTPD would supervise the Radya Pustaka Museum and the Kris Museum. According to her, it takes at least 10 civil servants to manage each museum.
“Obviously, we will work together with the Central Java Cultural Heritage Preservation Center [BPCB] in the management of cultural heritage objects at Radya Pustaka Museum. Currently, several BPCB employees are working there,” she said.
