akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who is contesting the 2017 gubernatorial election, kept an uncharacteristic silence toward the press on Saturday before undergoing a health check at the Dr. Mintohardjo Navy Hospital in Central Jakarta.
“On a talking strike,” he said at the hospital as quoted by Antara news agency.
Ahok is considered by journalists to be a politician who talks a lot, always answering questions with quotable, sometimes controversial statements, which has made him a media darling. It is also felt that when Ahok talks, it is hard to make him stop.
His running mate, Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, also only threw a smile to journalists and remained silent.
The head of Jakarta General Elections Commission, Sumarno, said Saturday that after physical checkups, the hopefuls would undergo psychological tests followed by drug tests at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). (evi)
