he candidates for the Jakarta gubernatorial election received health check-ups on Saturday at Navy Hospital Dr. Mintohardjo in Central Jakarta.
Incumbents Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat were the first to arrive at the hospital. They arrived at around 6:30 a.m.
Ahok and Djarot registered with the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) on Wednesday. They have been endorsed by the country’s ruling party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), and three other parties: the Golkar Party, Hanura Party and the NasDem Party.
Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni will together challenge Ahok and Djarot in the election.
Antara reported that Sylviana arrived at the hospital at 6:45 a.m., while Agus, son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, arrived at 7:25 a.m.
Agus and Sylviana have been endorsed by the “Cikeas Coalition” consisting of the Democratic Party, the United Development Party (PPP), the National Awakening Party and (PKB) and the National Mandate Party (PAN).
Sumarno, the head of KPU Jakarta, said the third pair to compete in the election, Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno, asked to receive their health check-ups later on in the day.
Anies, the former culture and education minister, and businessman Sandiaga have been endorsed by the Gerindra Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
Sandiaga arrived at the hospital at 12:30 p.m. while Anies arrived at 12:50 p.m.
Anies will compete for the position of governor and Sandiaga will compete as his running-mate.
Sandiaga said he had lost sleep lately because he had stayed awake for three days to see whether he would be nominated as the governor candidate or the deputy governor candidate. In the end, Anies was nominated as the candidate for governor.
