Indonesia establishes diplomatic ties with three more countries

ndonesia now has diplomatic relations with 190 out of the 193 UN member states as the country is set to establish three new foreign representatives after the signing of agreements for that purpose on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Indonesia will open offices in Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea and Chad, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry released on Wednesday, without specifying any dates.
"Diplomatic relations will facilitate the strengthening and improvement of our cooperation, both bilaterally and multilaterally at the UN," Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi said in the statement.
The minister attended 48 meetings throughout the UNGA's 71st session, which ran from Sept. 19 to 26, said the statement, adding 28 of the meetings were bilateral talks.
On Monday, Retno met with her counterparts from Bahrain and Iran, namely Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and Mohammad Javaf Zarif respectively. She conveyed Indonesia's commitment to boost its presence in the Middle East.
In both meetings, Retno also asked for support from the two countries on its bid for the UN Security Council non-permanent membership in 2019-2020. (ebf)
