our political parties that support the incumbent pair of Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat will reorganize the pair’s campaign team to accommodate the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's (PDI-P) wishes to lead the team.

“There must be a modification inside the campaign team, which had been formed before the PDI-P declared its support. Now, the parties that supported Ahok should meet to discuss the detailed plan of the team,” PDI-P politician Gembong Warsono told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

Gembong referred to a campaign team led by Golkar politician Nusron Wahid and appointed by Ahok when he was only supported by three political parties – Golkar, NasDem and Hanura. The PDI-P, the largest party in the coalition, had openly expressed its intention to lead the campaign team.

Nusron was inaugurated as part of the campaign team at “Rumah Lembang” (Ahok’s campaign team) in Menteng, Central Jakarta. But Ahok said on Tuesday that Nusron was not his campaign team chief.

“Nusron is not a campaign chief. I never officially declared him as my campaign chief as he just coordinated the team for me,” Ahok said.

Separately, Coordinator of Golkar central executive board’s politics, law and security division Yorrys Raweyai said his party agreed with the plan to replace Nusron with PDI-P politician Prasetyo Edi Marsudi.

Yorrys said Prasetyo, who is the Jakarta Council speaker, deserved to lead the team. “The City Council speaker is good. He has experience in the gubernatorial election in Jakarta,” he said on Tuesday as reported by tribunnews.com. (bbn)
