or the second consecutive year, automotive giant PT Astra International Tbk held its Astra Green Run on Sunday, a cross-country running competition carrying the theme of environmental conservation.
As many as 750 participants from 17 countries started running from the Elephant Safari Park and Lodge and passed through the scenic Balinese villages, rice fields and lush green forests of Ubud. Two categories were offered in the competition: the 6 kilometer run and the 13 kilometer run.
Organized by the company as part of its “green lifestyle” campaign, the Astra Green Run in Bali was the first leg of the nationwide race. The second leg will be held in Jakarta on Oct. 16.
"Astra Green Run Bali aims to encourage participants to live a healthy life and to love the environment. It is also in line with the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana that underlines harmony in the relationship between humans and God, with other people and with the environment," said Astra's coordinator for Bali Haris Prasetya.
During the event, the company planted 750 trees, one tree for every participant. (ebf)
