A Dutch national, Denise Pronk, died after being hit by a train at Lempuyangan Station in Yogyakarta on Thursday.

The 23-year-old woman was struck and dragged by the Joglokerto train connecting Solo and Purwokerto as she reportedly jumped from the platform of track two to track one when the train was passing at 7: 15 a.m. on Thursday.

It was known from her train ticket that Denise was waiting for the Sri Tanjung train from Yogyakarta to Banyuwangi departing from the station at 7:30 a.m.

Denise was standing on the platform even though her train was already parked on the track and ready to depart, Lempuyangan train station officer Hary said on Thursday as reported by tribunnews.com. He said that before the incident took place, he saw Denise taking photos with her friend and smoking on the platform.

Several train officials tried to stop her from falling onto track one as the Joglokerto train was approaching, but to no avail. Denise was dragged as far as 30 meters from where she was hit.

Police soon came to the station to check on her condition, but she had already passed away. Her body was then taken to Sardjito Yogyakarta Hospital. (rin)
