Malaysia deported 78 Indonesian workers via the Entikong border in Sanggau regency, West Kalimantan, on Saturday.
“The 78 migrant workers arrived in Entikong on Friday at around 4 p.m. from the Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching, Malaysia,” Entikong Police chief Adj. Comr. Kartyana said on Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said the migrant workers were deported for various reasons.
“Some found that their salaries were not as promised, so they went to the Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching to ask for help.”
Kartyana said after some fact-checking, the workers were sent home on three buses to the West Kalimantan Social Agency.
From the 78 deported workers, there are 73 adults and five children.
Most of them come from West Kalimantan, others from East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, West Java, South Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara and East Kalimantan.
Windu Setiyoso, a consulate general official in Kuching, said in the past few months there was a rising number of Indonesian migrant workers arrested by the Malaysian Police for immigration violations.
“The Malaysian government has enforced stricter measures for undocumented foreigners,” he said as quoted by Antara. (evi)
