fter a murder trial lasting longer than four months and under extreme media exposure, Jessica Kumala Wongso is due to hear the verdict of the Central Jakarta District Court judges on Thursday.
Jessica is prepared for the verdict her attorney Otto Hasibuan said as reported on Wednesday.
"What she thinks about is that she did not commit the [murder] and she is innocent. How could she be punished for something that she did not do," he said as reported by tribunnews.com.
Prosecutors have sought 20 years in prison for Jessica for allegedly murdering her college friend Wayan Mirna Salihin with cyanide-laced ice coffee during their meeting in Grand Indonesia shopping mall in January.
Jakarta Police named the permanent resident of Australia as the sole suspect in the high-profile murder. The Prosecutor’s Office had returned the dossier several times for lack of evidence provided by investigators before finally accepting it and proceeding with it to trial.
Jessica and her legal team have insisted since the hearings started on June 15 that she is innocent of Mirna's death. The murder case and especially Jessica's trial has been gripping public attention with several national television stations broadcasting the hearings live from the court room. (rin)
