A helicopter carrying food and building materials crash-landed in the village of Warem in Nduga regency, Papua, on Sunday.
“No fatality has been reported, but the pilot and copilot were injured and have been sent to Timika for medical treatment,” said Jayawijaya Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Yan Piet Reba.
The accident occurred on the border of Nduga regency and Mimika regency, in a location more easily accessible from Timika than from Kenyam in Nduga.
“I haven’t received much information about the helicopter, such as whether there were any passengers on board or how many goods it was carrying,” Yan went on.
The aircraft belonging to PT Indo Star Aviation took off at 9 a.m. local time from Timika and was bound for Waren on its second flight that day. “But at 10:50 a.m. the chopper crash-landed after losing its balance in strong wind from the south,” he said.
The representative of the National Committee for Aviation Safety in Papua, Norbert Tunyanan said he had received report about the accident. (evi)
