hree of seven children who were playing in a river in Hutuo, Limboto district in Gorontalo regency, died after a flash flood hit the location and carried them away on Sunday afternoon.
The three, identified as Abi Rasya Kinasi, Aldo Rahmat and Adrian Jabi, were all 10 years old and residents of Hutuo subdistrict.
The other four children, Dimas Pai, 12, Hafid Doke, 11, Nur Cholis, 11, and Alif, 11, were saved.
Iki, 40, a witness, said the seven were playing in the river at about 3:30 p.m. local time when rain poured down hard and water suddenly overwhelmed them.
“The four were holding onto grass and plants on the shore and were saved, but the three were carried away,” he said.
A search and rescue team found the three in Limboto Lake at 4:30 p.m.
Astika Mulyasari, a Limboto resident, said the rain fell for only about 15 minutes, but it was extremely heavy.
Last week, several areas in Gorontalo province got hit by floods: Gorontalo regency, Boalemo, North Gorontalo, Bone Bolango regency and Gorontalo municipality. (evi)
