he local distributor of Ferrari has denied media reports saying that the luxury Italian car brand is planning to open spare parts production facilities in East Java.
“The reports are not true. If they do have the plan to build a production facility, Ferrari Italia will notify all of its dealers,” said Innez Lawry, a spokeswoman for PT Citra Langgeng Otomotif, Ferrari's authorized distributor in Indonesia, as quoted by tribunnews.com on Wednesday.
A number of local media outlets recently quoted East Java Investment Agency (BPM) head Lily Sholeh as saying that Ferrari would invest Rp 70 trillion (US$5.35 billion) to build spare parts production facilities in the East Java cities of Sidoarjo and Situbondo.
Innez denied that Ferrari representatives had ever met any local officials to discuss such matters.
“We always import completely built up [Ferrari] cars, just like dealers in other countries. Ferrari has never assembled their cars outside Maranello,” she said, referring to an Italian town where the car maker operates its factory.
Since its inception in 1929, Ferrari has been known to apply strict limitations to their customers and potential buyers to keep its brand highly exclusive. For some of Ferrari's limited supercar models, the manufacturer even prohibits anyone who has yet to collect at least three Ferraris from purchasing the models. (hwa)
